Happy Mother's Day to all of you mommies and soon to be mommies.

My hubby took some photos of me and the two fabulous people that call me 'mom'...

earth.

Today I took Ruby and James to see the Disney documentary, Earth. It was really great, and a good choice of activity for my age-spanned children.

Ruby did well, and I shush'd her a few times... until the woman in the middle aged adult couple (childless) a few seats away answered her cell phone. Not only did the thing ring, loudly, but she had a conversation. For a few minutes. After that, I let Ruby say whatever she wanted to. Which was mostly, "Mom! What that? What he doin'?"

And great to hear James' commentary. He explained to me what was going on with the humpback whales at feeding time. (He used to be OBSESSED with sharks and whales) He got the biggest kick out of the exotic bird in the rainforest doing his mating dance and "show" ... He was sitting there giggling at the bird, who looked silly, and that alone would make someone giggle. I leaned over and asked, "Do you know what he's doing?" He said, "Mom! Lookin' for a WOMAN!" I had a good laugh. I was sure, because of the fact that he'd been a shark fanatic recently that his favorite part would be the great white shark lunging out of the water, many feet in the air. It was spectacular. He was impressed, but again, on our way out, I asked him his favorite part. And again, in a fit of giggles, he described that silly bird dancing and showing his stuff for a girl!

I'd read some reviews before going, and it said that James Earl Jones, who was narrating, was dry and the narration was silly. I think that for it to be a movie that would keep kids' attention, it needed to be silly. I braced myself to be annoyed, but it was thoroughly enjoyable.

My $0.02 about it: It was a wonderful summary of the Earth, its circle of life, and a good Mother's Day reminder that moms go to the ends of the earth and sacrifice everything for their young.

life's simple pleasures

Yesterday afternoon we headed outside to blow bubbles. I have to give all the credit for the idea to Ruby, because she found a bubble refill for my studio's bubble machine and insisted we "bow bubbles". After nap we changed her into her cute birthday outfit from Grandma and went outside. It was 75, sunny with big fluffy clouds that allowed me to have alternate overcast and sunshine in the pics. She refuses to look at me when I'm carrying the camera, and if she does look at me it's largely accidental. She does not take bribes. So I have to settle for what I can get.

It was so windy at times she barely had to blow.

The adorable flip flops that stay on nicely, but don't protect from the sand burrs in our "lawn".

A seldom shown smile flashed at the camera.

Too cute for words

A little close to the lips with the wand...

Getting it down.

Spilling the bubbles...
