While my husband has been working on James' room downstairs (where he is excited to move, I think it's mostly because he thinks he'll be away from his annoying sister), I have been thinking of getting ready for these birthdays as well as decorating a big boy's room and re-decorating for a baby boy.
When I asked James what he wanted for his birthday, he said, "A new hockey quilt from Grandma." Easy enough. That helps with his bedroom decor ideas. I asked if he wanted a hockey room. He said yes, please. And he suggested we do a MN Wild theme. Great! This is awesome from my indecisive kid who really doesn't care what people get him for his birthday or any other occasion - he is happy with literally anything. So, the paint is purchased and as soon as the mud is smoothed over the sheetrock and the walls are primed, game on.
My mom wanted help with what to do with his quilt. So I got a bit of inspiration from PB Teen and designed a quilt in Illustrator that he will be thrilled with. Doing this also makes grandma ecstatic because she 1) never knows what to get for him and 2) loves to quilt. The design is very simple with some applique work... I have to get up to my mom's quilt shop to pick out simple fabrics and my aunt owns a quilting machine and I have some ideas on how to quilt some cool patterns. I like the un-busy-ness of it. I'm not stuck on the colors but I think that with the way his room will be painted, it won't fight with the walls. The final product I expect to be oh-so-much-cooler. I have a dozen or so used hockey sticks and some old pucks that I am going to use in the room redecoration. I'm actually quite excited to get my hands on this project.

Then I can be on to the baby's room decorating ideas. I will once again hit up Grandma for the quilt and sewing.... just have to settle on what in the world to do with the ideas that are swarming in my brain!
I love decorating! So you must have found some old used sticks, huh? Can't wait to see pictures of the MN Wild room when it's all finished.
