the room, progress report #1

I was going to do a nice long post with progressive photos. Since I haven't the energy, and my photos are spread between my iPhone, point and shoot camera, and my big camera, that just sounds like an awful lot of work.

Floyd's been working on building the room for a while. I won't even try to put dates. I've been dying for him to finish the mudding and sanding so that I can get my hands on it and paint, and that has happened none too soon because today I finished MY physical part of it, which was crawling around on the floor adding "skate scuff" details to the floor with white paint.

I highly endorse Scotch Blue Painter's tape from 3M. Especially the stuff for delicate surfaces. I had Floyd get me some rolls as samples, because he could, and because the stuff is $9 a roll at the House of Orange! Silly. Anyhow, all of it has been too long a process for me because if you know me at all, I like to finish a project in a day. Ha ha. I came up with the brilliant plan to make it mimic the stripes on the Wild jerseys and as you can imagine, that did not take a day. Or two, or four. That's a lot of measuring, taping, painting, untaping, taping again, painting again... yeah I think I'm conveying the idea pretty well. I'm glad I chose to use a real gold color rather than the yellow gold the Wild have spec'd for their colors, because it looks so much more classy.

If you've painted with red you know that you can't get away with one coat. Or two. Yeah. The stripes weren't so bad but that logo was a killer. I did enjoy doing the logo though and while I struggled with placement and size, I think it's not too big or too small so I'm happy.

Wednesday night I painted the center faceoff circle on the floor, two face off dots and one blue line. The colors (red and blue) looked too stark and bright so I kind of whitewashed the whole thing and added the ice gouges. I'm pleased with the way it's come along although the floor was as much work as the walls.

I wish my husband had more time because I don't feel comfortable tackling the trim myself... oh well it's likely that the kid will be moved in and living in there for a while before the trim gets up.

My other plans include making a few different "props" or maybe accessories is a better word out of a bunch of hockey sticks that I have. I also have a bunch of pucks to incorporate into the room.

Here are a couple of photos. I'm excited to get the furniture in and the quilt that my mom's working on --- that won't come until next month as it's a birthday present for him, but I'm soooo excited to see what it looks like all together.

I'm contemplating doing a big silhouette of a player on that wall that has the faceoff circle... have other things that are going to take priority though.

To the left in these shots is a huge window, and around the little corner to the right is the door to get into the room. I'm standing in what is kind of the closet taking the pictures.
