something to smile about

After last appointment's disappointing outcome (they mistakenly scheduled him for a 20 minute appointment instead of an hour), James finally got his hour appointment and his braces off today. I really felt for him, it was a bit of an ordeal. Not only did the braces come off, but three baby teeth came out with the expander - they'd had nowhere to go with the trays on them... so they were free!

Before - the handsome boy with the braces.

The day he got them - Sept 18, 2007: just a baby at 8 years old!

After - the handsome boy without the braces.

How much does the tooth fairy leave a ten year old with three teeth at once in an expander? This is kind of a gross photo, but then again, this blog is for documenting our lives and this is what happened today :)

We'll see how long the new retainer goes without getting broken or misplaced...

The other thing he has to smile about today is the I didn't take him back to school after his appointment. He "got" to come to my gestational diabetes consult and keep an eye on Ruby. Judging from the way they interacted in the car I was dreading it - but they were perfect angels and sat and played blocks for an hour.

The smiles continue as he gets to skip school Tuesday through Thursday to go up to Grandma's for a couple of days with me and Ruby. What a cool mom am I!

What a handsome dude!! Look at that stylish hair. And he has changed so much!

I had an expander in junior high. Remind me to tell you about it sometime.

    Have a safe trip!

  2. What a smile.
Isn't it crazy how they can be so different in ages yet you want to strangle them when they are in the car together.

  3. Gorgeous! He is such a handsome little boy. I hope the retainer sticks around for awhile.

And yeah for them both being so good at your appointment!
